While the path of transformation is different for every school, here are some of the key parts of this journey.
Awareness
It typically starts with Hearing the Story. There are some great movies that document the potential of creating new learning environments. There are also events where this conversation is taking place.
Once that story is heard, courageous and impassioned educators step forth to bring that story into their building. We call this role an Evangelist.
Experience
To understand the transformative impact of these new learning practices, they must be experienced. A Make-a-thon is a powerful way to quickly introduce this experience into a learning community.
It is very important that the Evangelist has the support of their Leader, typically their principal. The principal is responsible for defining the learning culture in their building. They are also essential for finding ways to support this process of transformation.
Empowerment
To empower a Leader, there are professional development programs such as School Retool
Within every building, there are teachers who are already couragously exploring new methods to more deeply engage and inspire their students. They a called an Innovator. Often, though, they have been working independently of each other. By bringing them together to create an Innovation Cohort they can strengthen their practices and accelerate their own learning process.
To empower Innovators, there are programs such as Breaker.
Partnership
We are also developing a new industry partnership program, the Agile Partnership Program. This new program is partnering industry professionals that are using Agile practices in their corporate learning environments with teachers who are developing Agile Learning practices into their classrooms.
